Monahan has appeared in 10 games for the Commodores as a tight end.... Did not notch a reception during the season... Contributes effectively from the position as a blocker helping the Vanderbilt rushing attack.
Monahan enjoyed his first full season of good health in a Commodore uniform... The fifth-year player rotated with Brandon Barden as the team's 1-2 tight end tandem... Played in all 13 games, earning three starting assignments in two-tight end formations... Started games against Army, Tennessee and Wake Forest... Finished the season with three catches for 40 receiving yards... Longest reception for 23 yards provided a key early first down in victory over Kentucky.
Injuries continued to halt Monahan's career last year... Expected by share tight end duties with Brandon Barden, Monahan missed the entire season after suffering a second knee injury that required surgery and extensive rehabilitation... Expects to be limited during 2011 spring drills attempting to regain full health for preseason camp.
Started season as key contributor at tight end before leg injury ended season prematurely for second consecutive season... Played in seven games, earning starts against Western Carolina, LSU, Ole Miss and Army... Knee injury suffered against Georgia required season-ending surgery... Two-way starter in 2006 as postgraduate student at prestigious Phillips Academy... Started at tight end and defensive end for 7-1 Big Blue that lost in New England Prep School Athletic Conference championship to Salisbury... As TE, hauled in 36 receptions for 536 yards and seven TDs... On defense, contributed 28 tackles, eight quarterback sacks and three fumble recoveries... At Charlotte Country Day, caught 48 passes for 896 yards and 14 TDs as senior, earning invite to play in Shriners Bowl of the Carolinas... Helped Charlotte school to 2004 state title... Also was standout in lacrosse, basketball and track & field at Charlotte Country Day.
