In continuing to make connections with Nashvillians and the Vanderbilt fan base, Head Coach James Franklin invited fans to join him for an impromptu lunch Tuesday at Corner Pub Midtown. Photo Gallery
Before, during and after his meal, Franklin spent time mingling with longtime fans, introducing himself to others, signing autographs and posing for pictures with folks who stopped by.
Franklin's lunch with fans comes just days before the commencement of football practice on Friday. It was also his latest of numerous endeavors he has attended in the past week. As part of Vanderbilt's Commodores Connect initiative, VUCommodores.com held a contest Thursday over the lunch hour, challenging fans to be the first to find Mr. C on campus and tell him Commodores Connect.
The first person to locate Mr. C and tell him those two words was Kris Hahn, who located Mr. C in the Medical Center Plaza. For getting to Mr. C first, Kris received a signed mini-helmet from Head Coach James Franklin.
VUCommodores.com notified fans of the contest by reaching out to them via social media through its Facebook page and @VandyFootball Twitter accounts. A photo of Mr. C in the Medical Center Plaza and the password for the day were posted on both platforms upon arrival.
Fans can expect additional Find Mr. C contests in the coming weeks.

Last spring, fans submitted ideas to name the Commodores' naval horn, which has resided atop the press box of Vanderbilt Stadium since 1993. The horn sounds when the football team takes the field and after every Commodore score.
We received 84 creative suggestions and narrowed the list down to three: The Admiral, The WestEnder, and Old Natchez. Vote for your favorite name online or at Dore Jam August 7.

Football head coach James Franklin spent an hour answering questions Wednesday in his first live chat on VUcommodores.com.
While we couldn't get to every one of them, we'd like to thank fans for their tremendous interest in the event. We received more than 200 questions.
Franklin made special note of Wes Gunter's question and awarded him a prize in a video message.
Wes asked, "Glad to have you on board coach! You have done great things thus far and for that we (as fans) are very grateful! My question: With the depth that you currently have for the 2011 season, how do you address fatigue during a game/season? As all of us fans know, we are generally a solid 2-3 quarter team, but fall apart as the game progresses. Can this be addressed with conditioning or do we just need more capable bodies to rotate in and out?"
Coach responded, "That is a great question. You are correct from studying previous games and previous seasons and what we went through this spring. The answer is a combination of both. We need to be in great shape physically and mentally and we have to be smart about how we practice. We have to make it to the games as sharp as we can. It is probably our biggest challenge. We also have to be willing to play young players so that we can stay fresh."

On Thursday members of Vanderbilt's football team began making phone calls to season ticket holders thanking them for their support in the stands.
In the process of making phone calls, players asked the ticket holders they spoke with how long they have been Commodore fans. What the players found were a wide range of responses, but there were two in particular that stood out.
Season ticket holders Bill Kelly and Buddy Shaffer have each been fans for more than 60 years. As a reward for their loyalty, the two received unexpected return calls Thursday evening from wide receiver John Cole and offensive lineman Caleb Welchans.
Cole and Welchans each spoke with the two longtime fans and notified them that Vanderbilt Athletics was rewarding them with a Vanderbilt mini helmet signed by Head Coach James Franklin. Watch the video of the two calls.
Members of the football team will again be calling season ticket holders to thank them on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, so if you have tickets you can expect a phone call.
