Also played varsity basketball.

Shawn Anthony Stankavage... Born Oct. 3, 1995... Son of Scott Stankavage and Sue Walsh... Has four sisters, Sarah, Shelby, Ella and Jordan, and a brother, Leo... Dad played QB at University of North Carolina and in NFL with Denver Broncos; mom was an elite swimmer, qualifying for the 1980 Moscow Olympics in the 200-meter backstroke which was boycotted by the United States.

"He's a guy that emerged as a primary leader and served as a team captain. What sticks out most in my mind about him is his ability to make plays. He can do some Johnny Manziel-type things. He can stand in the pocket and make a throw or make a play out of nothing.

"One game, when we were playing our conference rival, he scrambled out of the pocket and flipped a little shuffle pass to our running back for a big first down. Then, a play or two later, he dropped back and fired a strike down the field for a 60-yard touchdown pass. And I think those two plays (summarize) what he can do."

"He's got a great frame and I expect him to put on 20-25 pounds. He gets along with everybody on the team, and they responded to his leadership."

Selected Vanderbilt over East Carolina, Tennessee, and Wake Forest among others
