As sophomore, started at DE; became offensive starter at RT as junior... In 2007, consistently team's top blocker while earning TAPPS first team All-State honors... Senior squad captured state title with 11-2 overall record... 2006 team went undefeated at 13-0 en route to state championship... Named first team TAPPS All-District as junior and senior... Throws shot put in track and field... National Honor Society member.

Dad is Harris County (Texas) civil court judge; mom is physical therapist and teacher... Born and raised in Houston area... School alum include Houston Texans Head Coach Gary Kubick... Has participated in choir throughout high school... Enjoys country music... In summer of 2006, worked for two months as a safari nature guide in South Africa.

"Vanderbilt is getting a young man in Richard with a ton of upside and a guy that I believe has outstanding potential at the college level.

"He's been with us for four years, and was one of only two sophomores that worked their way into the lineup, starting at defensive end. Then, as Richard got bigger and stronger, we moved him to the offensive line. He's been a superb offensive tackle for our team the last two years, helping us win consecutive state titles.

"Richard is a tenacious football player. He's a real aggressive guy, has good feet, and has pass protection techniques. Richard also has the long arms that teams are looking for in offensive linemen. He's going to be a 305-310 pounder with outstanding potential."
