Preseason pundits have made their prognostications and have the Commodores near the top of the rankings, but on Thursday, the nation's coaches added their stamp of approval for this year's Vanderbilt men's basketball team, placing the squad at number seven in their preseason rankings.
Coach Stallings and this year's group of players join two of Vanderbilt's most respected teams of all time with the preseason standing. The number seven preseason ranking is the third-best in school history - the 1964-65 team was rated number six by the Associated Press in the preseason, and the 1965-66 team began the year as the number five team in the country according to the AP. Both of those teams featured a man named Clyde Lee.
It also marks the first time in the Stallings' era that the Commodores have garnered a preseason ranking, and it is the first time since the 1993-94 team that a Vanderbilt team has appeared in the preseason polls.
The Commodores begin their season on November 7 with a preseason game against Xavier (La.). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. CT.
