Quick Slant: MBB tickets ahead of pace

Aug. 19, 2010

Quick Slant is a weekly quick read to share what's on our mind. Expect brief insights and occasionally opinionated overviews of collegiate athletics in general and the Vanderbilt Commodores in particular.

  • You may have read that our football season ticket sales are running ahead of last year's pace in spite of a pesky economy and last year's disappointment. Encouraging when considering that sales are lagging at some other schools. By the way, our men's basketball season tickets are running way ahead of last year's sales pace - nearly 550 more to be precise. We've been sold out the last few years. Fans know it's been fun to be in the gym.
  • Our communications shop had a busy summer and very soon you will see the fruits of our labor. A completely redesigned will be unveiled by mid-September and a new micro-site that provides an overview of athletics and each varsity program will be coming out on our web page around Labor Day.
  • Could the Major League success of ex-Dores David Price, Mike Minor and Pedro Alvarez along with 20-some others in the minor leagues come at a better time to aid the summer efforts of super recruiter Tim Corbin and his staff? The answer, in a word, is "no."
  • We are fired up about our new radio flagship partner's enthusiasm. Nashville's WRQQ, 97.1-FM, was broadcasting live at `Dore Jam, Joe Fisher's week day reports now come at 5:12 p.m. with drive time at its peak and RQQ runs numerous promos daily. You will see them live before our home football games.
