Men's Basketball
MBB: Once in a lifetime trip awaits

Aug. 9, 2013

Bags packed.  Check.  Camera.  Check.  The Commodore men's basketball squad on a once-in-a-lifetime trip to Greece and Italy.  Check.

We're a day away from hitting the great wide open for Europe on a 10-day tour of four basketball games and some of the world's most renown tourist sites, and it's safe to say that all of us going on the trip are excited to get the journey started.

The travel party begins the trip with a flight out of Nashville at 11:45 a.m. CT to Philadelphia, and then a direct flight to Athens that departs Philadelphia at 4:20 p.m. ET and then lands at Athens International Airport at 9:15 a.m. on August 11.

If you're counting at home, that's a total of 5,806 miles and nearly 14 hours on airplanes.  The total trip itself will account for almost 12,000 miles.

Also if you're counting at home, Athens is eight hours ahead of Nashville and the Central Time Zone, with Rome being seven hours ahead.

Of course the party will do some awesome sightseeing of places like the Acropolis, Parthenon, Olympia, Pompeii, and Rome, but if you ask the guys, they're there for business.  They'll get a chance to display the results from their 10 days of practices with two games in Athens against the Athens All Stars on August 12th and 13th, a team composed of professional and pro-am players from the Athens region, and in Rome, Vanderbilt will play two games against Perugia Basket on August 17 and 18, a third division team in Italy.  For more about that team, check out this link, and for information about the venue where the Commodores will play in Rome, the Stella Azzurra Gym, you can see that here.

We'll be tweeting on our VandyMBB feed and sending back blogs, photos, and results from our adventures in Europe on vucommodores.com, so be sure to check those outlets for the latest from the Commodores.

Guys Ready

Our social media maven, Dana Reynolds, filmed this the other day at our photo shoot at Memorial with Eric McClellan, Josh Henderson, Kyle Fuller, and Rod Odom.  It's only two minutes, but it's PURE GOLD.  Topics include the trip to Europe, who they want to room with on the road, the Alumni Game, and a special performance at the end of the video.

Other Gold Nuggets from the Trip

Assistant coach Yanni Hufnagel made this same trip a year ago while he was with Harvard.

A few Commodores will be helping out with a blog on the trip.

This will be the fourth overseas trip for a Kevin Stallings-coached Vanderbilt team.  Previous stops included Monaco, France, Spain, and Australia.

Will definitely be repping this Star V on the long plane ride!

Until next time, Antío! (Greek for Goodbye).
