Getting to know Nolan Cressler

Nolan Cressler, 6'4 guard who transferred to Vanderbilt from Cornell in the summer of 2014, and averaged 16.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.6 assists in his sophomore season with the Big Red.  He was named an honorable-mention All-Ivy selection as a sophomore and will have two years of eligibility remaining after sitting out the 2014-15 season.

Cressler sat down with to answer a few questions about himself on the floor and off.

Favorite NBA team:  Chicago Bulls.
The one NBA player you wished was your teammate:  DeJuan Blair.
Age I picked up a basketball:  5
I picked my jersey number because:  Opposite of my high school jersey and Kevin Love.
When I was a kid I tried to be like:  My Dad.
A few words that describe the way I play basketball:  Good scorer, good feel for the game, competitive.
What I need to improve on to be a better player:  Speed/Quickness.
The thing that impresses me most about Coach Stallings:  His dedication to Vanderbilt, character and honesty.
Favorite part about playing at Memorial Gym: The tradition and being out there with my teammates.
Favorite sport other than basketball:  Football.
Favorite musical performer:  Rick Ross.
Favorite movie:  Dumb and Dumber.
Nobody can believe I watch this TV show:  Adventure Time.
Favorite Internet Site:  Twitter.
Favorite midnight snack: Trail Mix (T-Mix).
Favorite thing about myself:  My widow's peak.
Worst habit: Procrastinating papers.
Dream Date: Katy Perry/Jennifer Lawrence.
My basketball “dream team” would be:  Mookie Blaylock, Cuttino Mobley, Larry Bird, Magic, Jordan.
The best tasting food I can make:  Ham Omelette with a strawberry banana smoothie.
My bucket list includes:  Meeting Rick Ross.
Favorite athlete to watch in another sport:  Usain Bolt/Joey Chestnut.
Talent I’d most like to have:  Golfing or being able to do a hand stand.
Favorite thing to do away from basketball:  Spend time with family/friends.
I’m as good as anyone at:  Making people smile and feel good.
One thing my hometown is famous for:  Thinking our town is the best city in the world.  It is.
My best non-athletic talent:  Singing.
Favorite aspect of Nashville:  Southern hospitality and the nice weather.
Total number of songs on my IPOD or MP3 player:  906.
Superstitions:  Taking a shower and nap before every game.
The person I’d love to trade places with for a day:  Mark Wahlberg.
What I would do if I won the lottery:  Buy each of my family members their favorite car, move to an island, and buy 100 boxes of Frosted Mini Wheats.
Ultimate vacation destination:  Hawaii.
The person(s) I admire most:  My grandparents;, parents and brother.
Career goal (outside of basketball):  Successful Businessman.
The best advice I’ve received (and list who gave it to you):  "Keep on Keepin' On" - Joe Dirt.
The most famous person(s) I’ve met:  Charles Batch and Mike Clark (News Anchor from Pittsburgh).
Biggest influence in my life:  My Mom.
Most important thing I’ve learned since coming to Vanderbilt:  Time management and how to be a great teammate.
My advice to young people is:  It doesn't matter where you came from, it's what you aspire to be.  Start with a goal and work towards that everyday.
I chose to attend Vanderbilt over these schools:  Pitt, Notre Dame, Michigan, Rutgers, Dayton.  Vanderbilt is a great situation for me academically and athletically.  
Other interesting facts about yourself (famous people you know, interesting hobbies, life-changing experiences):  I went skydiving after my senior year with my brother and friend; I like trying all different kinds of foods; I enjoy basically every genre of music.
