Getting to know Sheldon Jeter

July 20, 2012

Previous Q&A: Getting to Know A.J. Astroth caught up with incoming freshman forward Sheldon Jeter for the second installment of getting to know the Commodores' new players.  The 6'7 Jeter is now in his second summer semester working out with the team after graduating from Beaver Falls High School (Pa.) in early June.

Jeter answered a few questions and some of the answers may surprise you - especially why he chose his uniform number.

You're from Beaver Falls, Pa.  Talk to me about your hometown.

It's more known for football instead of basketball, but we're trying to change that around a little bit.  We've had a few football players make it into the NFL, but haven't had too many basketball players make it to the NBA out of the area.

What's the closest big city to Beaver Falls?

I'm about 20 minutes outside of Pittsburgh.

How did school go your first month?

It went well.

Have you had to make any adjustments to the way you study?

I just had to study more now than what I did in high school.

You said you chose your number (21) because of Deion Sanders.  What do you know about Deion?

I just like everything about Deion Sanders.  The whole Prime Time thing is great, and as brash and cocky as he is, he doesn't drink, doesn't smoke, doesn't cuss.  He proves that you can be brash and confident and also act the right way.

Describe your game and what you do well.

I'm a good role player.  If my shot is not working, and you need me to rebound, I can rebound.  I always play defense, and my jumper is coming along, as is my whole offensive game.
