Damian Jones wins SEC Freshman of the Week

Vanderbilt freshman Damian Jones was named the SEC Freshman of the Week for his play against Missouri and Auburn last week, it was announced Monday by the league office in Birmingham.  The Baton Rouge, La., native averaged 16.5 points and 5.5 rebounds per game in the two contests.

The honor is Jones' first of his career.  For the season, the freshman center is averaging 11.6 points and 5.8 rebounds per game in all games, and 12.7 points and 6.8 rebounds in league play.  He has scored in double figures in 18 games this season, and has scored a career-high 19 points on two occasions (vs. Georgia State, at Missouri).

Jones and his Commodore teammates return to the floor Tuesday night against number-one ranked Florida at 6 p.m.  The game will air on ESPN.
