Vanderbilt junior guard John Jenkins was named the SEC's Player of the Week after averaging 27.0 points per game in two Vanderbilt wins on the road last week at Ole Miss and at Georgia.
The award is Jenkins' first of the 2011-12 campaign, and the third of his career. Jenkins also claimed three freshman of the week honors in the 2009-10 campaign.
The junior guard's numbers last week were eye-popping, scoring 26 points at Ole Miss on only five shots, and making 8-11 of his shots from the floor in a 28-point effort against Georgia. For the week, Jenkins was 81.3 percent from the floor (13-16), 83.3 percent from three (10-12), and 85.7 percent from the free throw line (18-21). In fact, Jenkins missed more free throws (3) than threes (2) last week.
His free throws made (12) and attempted (15) against Ole Miss were new career highs, and his three steals against the Bulldogs set a new career-best.
Jenkins and his Commodore teammates are back at it this week on Wednesday at home against South Carolina (7 p.m. CT, SEC Network) and on the road Saturday at Kentucky (11 a.m. CT, CBS).
