Vanderbilt-Marist postgame quotes

Recap |  Box Score

Marist 50, Vanderbilt 33
Ole Spice Classic

Vanderbilt Coach Kevin Stallings
(On the game)
"Early in the game, we got really good looks. We got the ball right to the basket, and we got wide open looks for three. I never like to blame it on shooting or lake thereof, it feels like a copout. I just think our guys are so uptight and lack self-confidence right now.

We defended well enough to win the game. They scored 50. We just couldn't get the ball in the goal.

We're just going to have to keep working and keep grinding and allows these guys to be more loose and more free."

Marist Coach Chuck Martin
(On overall performance)
"I'm really proud of our kids after having a tough night yesterday against West Virginia and being able to come back and perform the way we did yesterday. It says a lot about the character of our kids and the direction that our program is going."

(On team's defensive effort)
"Last night we went back and watched film. We watched the first half of the West Virginia game and really, we learned a lot from the West Virginia game. West Virginia taught us what intensity looked like, and what intensity feels like, and how to play hard. We had a shootaround this morning, but it wasn't a normal shootaround. We went live for an hour and it paid off."

(On changing lineup for this game)
"We were planning on it anyhow. T.J. Curry has done a great job in the first few games of the season and Isaiah Morton started for us all of last year with the exception of senior night. We sae certain things - Isaiah does certain things on the offense that causes problems for the opposing teams and T.J does a really good job on the defensive end. I thought we needed to increase some offense, and as a coach your gut sometimes says, "Do it now," and it panned out. It worked out."

(On team's mentality after loss to West Virginia)
"West Virginia did a tremendous job defensively against us. We really learned from that experience. Then there were some possessions that really had nothing to do with West Virginia, and it was really us. We lost our composure and allowed those guys to take us out of offense. They were really physical. We talked about not worrying about Vanderbilt. We decided let's just worry about Marist and the best Marist team we can be, and good things will happen."
