DORES WELCOME BULLDOGS FOR BIG SEC WEEKEND
Vanderbilt welcomes Georgia to Nashville for the teams' annual series. The Commodores have won four straight series against the Bulldogs dating back to 2009, not including the one game the two teams played in 2010 at Hawkins Field before the rest of the series was wiped out by a flood. Last season, the Dores took two-of-three in Athens, splitting a doubleheader on Saturday and winning the rubber match on Sunday. Zander Wiel jumped on the scene during the weekend going 4-for-8 with two doubles, two home runs and six RBI in the two VU wins.
X MARKS THE STREAK
Xavier Turner has a team-best 27-game hitting streak. Turner has hit in every game since the Commodores' win over Tennessee Tech on March 4 going 42-for-111 (.378) with 15 RBI and 18 runs scored. During his streak the sophomore has posted 12 multi-hit games. Turner posted streaks of 15 and 12 games during his freshman season, ending the year on a 12-game hitting streak which he pushed to 15 straight games with hits in the first three games this season. Turner's streak is the longest by a Commodore since Jason Esposito hit in 27 straight games in 2011.
THE NEW GUY
Carson Fulmer is the new guy in the Vanderbilt rotation and is scheduled to make his second career start on Saturday. The right-hander turned in six scoreless innings and matched his career-best with six strikeouts while picking up his first win of the season in his first career start at Arkansas last weekend.
CORBIN ECLIPSES 600 CAREER WINS
The Commodores' 2-1 victory at Arkansas last Saturday gave head coach Tim Corbin his 600th career victory. Corbin has 495 victories at Vanderbilt after posting 106 wins at Presbyterian in his first head coaching job.
Vanderbilt's pitching staff enters the weekend ranked first in the SEC and third nationally with 9.2 strikeouts per nine innings. The Dores' hurlers have struck out 382 batters this season. The match-up between Vandy's pitchers and Georgia's hitters will be a clash of the SEC leading strikeout pitching staff against the SEC leading strikeout lineup.
