COMMODORES MAKE RARE ROAD TRIP TO ARKANSAS
Vanderbilt makes a rare trip to Fayetteville, Ark. this week. The Commodores last trip to Baum Stadium was in 2011 when the Commodores took two-of-three from the Razorbacks. The two teams later met in the Southeastern Conference Tournament with the Dores notching a 2-1 victory to advance. Vanderbilt and Arkansas have played just 48 times in a series dating back to 1970. The Commodores are 20-28 all time vs. Arkansas.
X MARKS THE STREAK
Xavier Turner enters the weekend with a team-best 23-game hitting streak. Turner has hit in every game since the Commodores' win over Tennessee Tech on March 4 going 37-for-95 (.400) with 14 RBI and 17 runs scored. During his streak the sophomore has posted 11 multi-hit games. Turner posted streaks of 15 and 12 games during his freshman season, ending the year on a 12-game hitting streak which he pushed to 15 straight games with hits in the first three games this season.
TOUGH TO HIT
The Vanderbilt pitching staff has been one of the hardest staffs to hit in the nation this season. The Commodores' hurlers had allowed only 6.2 hits per nine innings entering the week to lead the Southeastern Conference and rank second nationally behind Virginia. Opponents are hitting just .193 against Vanderbilt this season.
John Norwood has come on lately for the Commodores going 14-for-41 (.342) with seven RBI and eight runs scored over his last nine games, including his first home run of the season. The junior has posted six two-hit games over his last nine, including four of the last five games. Norwood had not hit in more than two consecutive games all season until his recent surge has him with hits in five straight going 9-for-22 (.409).
OLD COLLEGE BUDDIES
Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin and Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long were college teammates at Ohio Wesleyan in the early 1980s.
