WILDCATS COME CALLING AT THE HAWK
Vanderbilt welcomes Kentucky to Hawkins Field this weekend. The last time the Wildcats visited Nashville the Commodores took two-of-three from then top-ranked Kentucky in a series that started a streak of 23 straight regular season series victories, including 15 straight in league play. Last season the Dores swept the Cats in Lexington, Ky. to clinch the SEC regular season title and set the team up to record an unprecedented 26-3 mark in league play. The Commodores are 114-120-3 all time vs. Kentucky dating back to 1924.
AN X STREAK
Xavier Turner enters the weekend with a team-best 13-game hitting streak. Turner has hit in every game since the Commodores' win over Tennessee Tech on March 4 going 19-for-50 (.380) with seven RBI and eight runs scored. Turner started the streak with three straight multi-hit games and posted his fourth multi-hit game during the streak in Sunday's win at Mississippi State with a pair of singles. The sophomore posted streaks of 15 and 12 games during his freshman season, ending the year on a 12-game hitting streak which he pushed to 15 straight games with hits in the first three games this season.
Dansby Swanson has been the Commodores' most consistent hitter this season reaching base in all 26 games this year and recording hits in 23 of the team's 26 games. In the three games Swanson has not recorded a hit, the sophomore has posted five walks. He enters the weekend on a seven-game hitting streak going 12-for-31 (.387) with five doubles, three RBI, three stolen bases and five runs scored. Swanson has been consistent while moving around the top third of the VU batting order.
NO SLIDES HERE
With Sunday's win at Mississippi State, the Commodores avoided losing their third straight game and have now dodged losing three straight since early in the 2012 season when the team dropped five straight (March 16-23). Since that five-game losing streak the Dores have played 133 games without losing three straight.
