Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt swept the team's third straight weekend series after dropping a pair of midweek games to finish the week 3-2 and is now 10-2 on the season... The Commodores could not come up with the big hit in Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Western Kentucky... VU left five men in scoring position in the loss... Walker Buehler took the loss despite a quality start allowing three runs over six innings... Evansville scored six runs in the first two innings on Wednesday and held off Vandy to win 8-3... Freshman John Kilichowski was a bright spot in the loss, tossing 5.2 scoreless innings of relief and striking out seven to keep the Dores in the game... Freshman Bryan Reynolds doubled, singled and knocked in a run in the loss... Tyler Beede put the Commodores back in the win column on Friday with a 4-1 victory over Stanford... Beede pitched a season-best seven innings allowing one run on three hits with six strikeouts... Carson Fulmer worked the final two innings to notch his team-best third save of the season... Eight of the nine Commodores in the lineup collected hits in the win, including Dansby Swanson who reached base three times and hit his first career home run... Vanderbilt clinched the series on Saturday with a 5-1 win behind Jared Miller and a strong effort from the bullpen... Miller allowed his first run of the season but still picked up his third victory with five solid innings allowing one run on three hits with four strikeouts... Hayden Stone, Adam Ravenelle and Brian Miller combined to pitch the final four frames giving up no hits... Vince Conde hit his first home run of the season with a solo shot and freshman Nolan Rogers picked up two hits in the win... The Commodores finished off the sweep of Stanford on Sunday with a 4-2 win played in cold and rainy conditions... The two teams combined to walk 14 batters in the game with both teams forcing in runs with bases loaded walks... The Cardinal pitching staff issued a bases loaded walk to force in the go-ahead run in the eighth... Zander Wiel scored two runs and Conde walked three times... Ravenelle picked up his first win of the season with 1.1 scoreless innings of relief and Brian Miller earned his first save of 2014... The Commodores will play five games this coming week for the second straight week... Hawkins Field welcomes Tennessee Tech on Tuesday before the Commodores head to Middle Tennessee State on Wednesday... Vanderbilt hosts its last non-conference weekend series when Winthrop visits this coming weekend.
