99 RUNS ON THE BOARD
Vanderbilt has scored 99 runs in the team's first 10 games of the season marking the most for the Commodores in the first 10 games of a season since 1994 when the Dores put up 102 runs to open the year. Vanderbilt has scored at least nine runs in eight of the team's 10 games and 10-plus runs in six games. Tony Kemp has touched home the most with 16 runs scored already. Connor Harrell, Jack Lupo and Conrad Gregor have all scored 11 runs this year.
IT'S GOTTA BE THE GLASSES
Sophomore Philip Pfeifer had never started a game until last Tuesday when he took the ball first at Belmont. The lefty showed why he is the all-time winningest high school pitcher in Tennessee, striking out 10 Bruins over 6.2 innings to earn the win in the Commodores' 9-3 victory. Pfeifer's 10 punch outs were the most by a Commodore since Taylor Hill fanned 13 in 2011. Just five days later, Pfeifer returned to the hill for VU and turned in a second quality start to beat Monmouth. He allowed only one unearned run on two hits in six innings to go a perfect 2-for-2 on the week. For his efforts he became the first Commodore since Grayson Garvin in 2011 to earn SEC Pitcher of the Week.
Connor Harrell had just about as good an inning as a player can have on Wednesday night when the senior started a nine-run rally with a triple off the base of the left field wall and capped the same rally with a grand slam off the scoreboard in left field.
LOTS OF LEADERS
A look at the SEC stat leaders coming into the weekends reveals a lot of Commodores. Tony Kemp leads the league in runs scored (16) while Connor Harrell tops the league in RBI (21) and home runs (4). After his big week, Jack Lupo leads the way with nine stolen bases with the top four base stealers in the league wearing a Vanderbilt uniform. Philip Pfeifer has pitched the most innings (14.0) and Ziomek's 18 strikeouts are tops in the SEC. Four Commodores hurlers appear in the top 10 in strikeouts (Pfeifer - 2nd, Buehler - 7th, Beede - 10th).
