• Doubled in two runs and hit his second home run of the weekend with a two-run blast going 2-for-4 with four RBI on Sunday.
• Hit the Commodores' first home run of the season on Friday with a towering two-run shot over the left field wall.
• All three hits over the weekend went for extra bases (two home runs, one double).

Freshman of the Week Nominee
Xavier Turner, IF, 6-2, 220, Sandusky, Ohio
• Weekly totals: 3G/1GS, 9AB, 3R, 4H, 3RBI, 2B
• Earned his first career start on Sunday going 2-for-3 with one RBI for his first career multi-hit game.
• Singled in his first collegiate at-bat with a single to right field on Friday and had two RBI on Saturday.
• Had a team-best four hits over the weekend and had at least one hit in all three games.

Commodore Notes
Vanderbilt opened the season with a series victory over visiting Long Beach State... The #2 Commodores topped the Dirtbags 10-4 on Friday night behind a strong start from junior Kevin Ziomek, who earned the win working six innings and allowing one run on four hits with seven strikeouts... Connor Harrell hit his first home run of the season and 22 of the Commodores' 35-man roster saw playing time, including six true freshmen... On a chilly Saturday, VU used a seven-run seventh inning to put away LBSU in a 12-2 victory... In the seventh, the Dores scored six runs without the benefit of a hit until Conrad Gregor's single up the middle capped the rally... Jack Lupo, Xavier Turner and Gregor had two RBI apiece... Sophomore Tyler Beede earned the win pitching in and out of trouble over his five innings allowing one run on five hits and five walks... The Dirtbags salvaged a victory on Sunday in a travel-shortened, eight-inning 13-9 victory... Long Beach State scored nine runs in the first three innings and never trailed... Connor Harrell hit his second home run of the year with a two-run shot and added a two-run double for a four RBI day... Spencer Navin chipped in three hits but the Commodores stranded 10 men on base, including six in scoring position... Junior T.J. Pecoraro was pinned with the loss giving up six runs, four earned, on five hits over 1.2 innings... Over the weekend 27 Commodores played with eight freshmen getting on the field... The Dores scored 31 runs over the three games, a number the team did not reach until the seventh game last season... For the second straight year Connor Harrell hit two home runs on opening weekend, last year the outfielder belted two in one game at Stanford... Vanderbilt has five games scheduled this week with midweek games at Belmont on Tuesday and vs. Central Arkansas at Hawkins Field on Wednesday before welcoming Monmouth to town for a three-game series over the weekend.
