Player/Freshman of the Week Nominee

Bryan Reynolds, OF, 6-2, 195, Brentwood, Tenn.
Weekly totals: 3G/2GS, 10AB, 1R, 6H, 2B, 4RBI

Began his college career playing in all three games, two starts, at Long Beach State and going 6-for-10 with two doubles, one run scored and four RBI to lead the team in hits and RBI for the weekend.

Capped off a big weekend on Sunday by going 3-for-4 with three RBI to help Vandy clinch the series sweep. Doubled in a run in his first at-bat then followed up with a RBI-single in his second at-bat and doubled in another run with his second double of the day in his third at-bat.

Made the defensive play of the day as well on Sunday with a diving catch in left field that saved at least one run in the sixth inning.

In his first career start on Saturday, the Brentwood, Tenn. native went 2-for-4 with one RBI, ripping a RBI-single in his second at-bat.

Singled to right-center field in his first career at-bat on Friday night after entering the game as a pinch hitter.

Pitcher of the Week Nominee

Earned the victory on Saturday in just his fourth career start and first since his freshman year, the lefty turned in six scoreless innings against Long Beach State. His six innings pitched set a new career-best mark along with his four strikeouts.

Allowed only a first inning, two-out single then retired the next 14 batters he faced before Carson Fulmer finished off the Commodores' first shutout victory of the season. During his streak of 14 retired only three balls left the infield.

Miller was also involved in the defensive play of the day making a behind the back play on a ball that was hit up the middle. Miller's glove flew off as he stopped the ball that sent the ball bouncing towards the first base line where catcher Chris Harvey picked it up and fired to first for the out.

Vanderbilt opened the 2014 season with a series sweep at Long Beach State... The Commodores started the season with a 5-2 victory on Friday night behind starter Tyler Beede, who earned the win after allowing one unearned run on one hit with seven strikeouts over five innings... Xavier Turner drove in two and John Norwood collected a pair of hits... Jared Miller dominated the Dirtbags over six innings to earn his first victory of the season combining with Carson Fulmer for a 6-0 shutout victory on Saturday... Miller retired the final 14 batters he faced on the day and allowed only one hit and fanned four before Fulmer earned the save with three scoreless innings and five strikeouts... Bryan Reynolds started his first career game and went 2-for-4 with Vince Conde driving in two runs in the win... Vandy completed the sweep on Sunday with a 6-2 win... Reynolds' skills were on full display in the win as the freshman went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI and made a run-saving, diving catch in the sixth inning... Tyler Ferguson became the third VU starting pitcher in has many days to earn the win with 5.1 solid innings of work allowing two unearned runs on one hit... Vanderbilt opens Hawkins Field for the 2014 season on Wednesday against crosstown rival Lipscomb at 4 p.m.
