With Opening Day of the 2011 College Baseball Season just three days away, the Vanderbilt Commodores were picked to finish second in the Southeastern Conference East Division by the league's coaches.
Florida was voted to win the SEC and East championships by the coaches getting all 66 points available. The Gators are ranked first nationally in several preseason polls. The Commodores received 55 points to finish second in the poll in the East followed by defending national champion South Carolina, Kentucky, Georgia and Tennessee. LSU was picked to win the West Division followed by Arkansas, Auburn, Ole Miss, Alabama and Mississippi State.
The Dores open the season Friday in San Diego against the University of San Diego with first pitch slated for 4 p.m. CT. VU will play the Toreros Saturday (5 p.m. CT) and Sunday (3 p.m. CT) along with one game against San Diego State on Saturday (9 p.m. CT). Hawkins Field will host its first game of the year Wednesday, February 23 when the Belmont Bruins travel across town to take on the Commodores. SEC play begins Friday, March 18 when the Mississippi State Bulldogs visit Nashville.
Vanderbilt is scheduled to play on television at least 10 times during SEC play this spring, including three games on the ESPN family of networks. A full TV schedule is below.
