Nashville, Tenn. – Vanderbilt garnered its third preseason top-25 ranking on Tuesday, being tabbed No. 18 heading into the year according to Baseball America.
The Dores return 19 lettermen and five positional starters to a team that captured its fourth NCAA Regional title in five seasons a year ago. The group receives an added boost from a 16-member freshman class that was named tops in the country by Baseball America.
The Southeastern Conference leads all leagues with eight teams picked inside the top 25. Vandy is joined by Florida (1), Arkansas (4), Kentucky (8), Texas A&M (10), Mississippi (16), LSU (17) and Mississippi State (23).
Vanderbilt will play a combined 18 regular-season games against opponents featured in the publication’s rankings. Outside of the SEC, the Dores have non-conference tilts against No. 7 TCU, No. 13 UCLA and No. 19 Louisville.
The Vandy Boys officially open in-season training on Friday, leading into the season opener on Feb. 16 against Duke. The squad plays its first 10 games at Hawkins Field and a total of 31 at the friendly confines. Limited tickets are still available by clicking here.
The squad is ranked as high as No. 6 by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. The publication also tabbed a pair of juniors in right-handed pitcher Patrick Raby and first baseman Julian Infante to its preseason All-America team. Vandy checked in at No. 14 per D1Baseball.com.
Fans next opportunity to meet the team will take place on Saturday from 2:30-3 p.m. inside the Memorial practice gym. The full squad will be signing posters leading up to the men’s basketball home matchup against TCU.
