Jan. 16, 2018

Nashville, Tenn. - With an abundance of new faces entering the 2018 season, the expectations remain just as high for the Vanderbilt baseball program.

The Commodores checked in at No. 14 in D1Baseball.com's preseason top-25 poll, the publication announced Tuesday. Vandy is among eight Southeastern Conference programs in the polls, the most of any league.

The squad returns 19 lettermen and five positional starters to a team that captured its fourth NCAA Regional title in five seasons a year ago. The journey to the postseason will be another challenging one with a combined 22 games on tap against opponents in D1Baseball's top 25.

Among those top-25 matchups including Opening Weekend at Hawkins Field (Feb. 16-18) when the Vandy Boys face off against No. 25 Duke. The Dores, whose 16-member freshman class was ranked tops in the nation, take on preseason top-25 ranked opponents from five different conferences including the AAC, ACC, Big 12, Pac 12 and SEC.

D1Baseball is the second preseason publication to rank Vanderbilt inside the top-15. The Dores were tabbed No. 6 by Collegiate Baseball newspaper, marking the eighth-consecutive season Vandy has appeared in the preseason top-10.

Tickets are going fast for the program's upcoming Vanderbilt baseball team banquet, scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 8 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Nashville. Head coach Tim Corbin, entering his 16th season at the helm, will introduce the squad and acknowledge the team's awards from the 2017 season. The event also includes a silent auction, autographs and more. To secure your seats click here.
