Tim Corbin Opening Statement "Not much to say really. We lost 5-3 in an elimination game that ends the season for us. The proverbial car has slammed on the brakes, and the season is over."
"I want to congratulate Louisville. They did a good job. They were scrappy and played a good game. We were victimized in a tournament setting with some defense."
On Tony Zych "He did a nice job against us today. He has a good arm and he mixed it up."
On Mike Minor "We went in there with the frame of mind that he would throw 40-50 pitches, and we would leave it at that. I wanted him to face Wright, but he wasn’t going to face Arnold. Mike knew what he had in his tank and he knew how far he could go with it. He is very reliable."
On deciding to start Minor "We were in a quandary on who to pitch today. I’m gonna miss him. Mikey is a warrior. When he gets to the league my wife and I will be there to watch him if we can get some tickets. We are just irritated right now."
Mike Minor On his pitching "It was going really good through the first couple of innings. I was going on two days rest, but the arm felt good, but it was a little slow. Breaking pitches were a little off, so I stayed with the changeup. Then I left the slider up, and it cost me."
Louisville Head Coach Dan McDonnell Opening Statement "First, I want to congratulate Vanderbilt. I know they had higher goals, but they are such a young team. How well they played in the conference tournament and how well they played in the regional, they were only a swing or two away from winning this thing."
"Next to (Ole Miss head coach) and (The Citadel head coach), I have more respect for Tim Corbin than any other coach in the country. It was very special for me to compete against him and come up on the winning side."
"We did the exact opposite of last night. We pitched, we made plays, and we capitalized on our opportunities. We came up with some timely hits. I am real proud of this group of guys."
On the pitching "We have thrown Tony to the fire. Tony has pitched a lot of big games. It was an easy decision on our part and fortunately we had a talented guy like Tony available."
Louisville right fielder Ryan Wright On the homerun "He got to a 3-1 count and I had first base open. He had been getting everyone out on team with changeups so far. Honestly, I was looking for changeup, and he left it in the middle of the plate, belt-high, and I was lucky I didn’t miss it."
Louisville, Starting Pitcher Tony Zych On tonight’s performance "I was a little nervous. It was a big start. It felt good when I got out there, and once I got rolling, I felt really good."
On what helps kept him calm "Justin has helped me out a lot and I talk to him in the dugout. He keeps me pretty cool. Today I just felt good the whole time."
Louisville, Relief Pitcher Justin Marks On being named NCAA Regional MVP "I didn‘t know I was going to throw today. I knew all-around, I had a pretty good performance. It feels great. It was just an unbelievable tournament and an unbelievable feeling."
