At 8:30 a.m. we boarded the bus for Mt. Fuji. After a two-hour bus ride we arrived at 5th station on the mountain. The mountain was unreal... covered in snow and beautiful. My expectations certainly did not end on a final record of 1-1-2. We knew we had a plan and strive to execute upon it, but we were also trying to figure out our identity as a club. CLICK FOR MORE Vanderbilt rallies again in ninth to tie TOKYO- For the second time in three days, the Vanderbilt offense rallied from behind in the ninth inning. Down to the their final strike and trailing 3-0 to Waseda, sophomore infielder Jason Esposito drilled a bases loaded triple to deep center field to tie the game at 3-3. CLICK FOR MORE Tuesday, November 24, 2009 Giobbi's Japan Journal by Andrew Giobbi, Senior Catcher With a full day of baseball ahead of us, we had to take on the challenge of two very good Japanese teams today. Our opening game yesterday went pretty well, with only a few minor mistakes. The young players on the team have done a tremendous job of hanging tough in a different environment that they aren't used to. We loaded the bus at 6:45 a.m. in preparation for the first game of our doubleheader at 10 a.m. vs. Ayoyama. On the bus we ate a boxed breakfast filled with ham and egg salad sandwiches, brie cheese, and a muffin. CLICK FOR MORE Commodores split doubleheader in Japan TOKYO- Vanderbilt baseball split a doubleheader in Japan, shutting out Aoyama Gakuin 1-0 in the first game, before falling 3-2 to Meiji University on their home field. CLICK FOR MORE Monday, November 23, 2009 Japan Baseball Blog - Day 2 (with photo gallery) by Daniel Harris, Baseball Operations Today began with an hour bus ride to Hosei University located an hour outside of Tokyo. When we arrived to the stadium for our first game of the trip, members of Hosei's baseball team greeted us at the bus. CLICK FOR MORE Commodores tie Hosei University, 4-4 TOKYO- Vanderbilt and Hosei played to a 4-4 tie in a game that ended after nine innings due to darkness. The Commodores came from behind to the tie the game on three separate occasions, capped off by a Brian Harris single that scored Joe Loftus. The team arrived at Hawkins Field at 3 a.m. for a pre-flight run and workout. For many college baseball fans, the question alone strikes a nerve that could lead to hours of debate. The argument for or against the type of bat used in college baseball has raged on for years and will likely continue to for the foreseeable future.
