"It's been a long time coming. But it's a new beginning."
High expectations. No fear. The Commodores live by this mantra.
And like Javon Marshall said in his locker room speech before Vanderbilt's victory over Tennessee, never be scared of the past. Only learn from it.
"The person that said history repeats itself is crazy. History teaches us, it molds us, it shapes us," Marshall shouted. "We've been here working, sweating all summer. We put it on the line."
Forget history. Vanderbilt expected to win last Saturday. The Commodores knew they let a golden opportunity slip away the previous year in Knoxville. Brand New Vanderbilt wouldn't let it happen twice.
"You've earned this," head coach James Franklin repeated three times, getting louder and louder. "Now let's go take it."
Thirty years in the making.
