Weinman on the Web: DESTIN-nation

Oct. 8, 2010

It's Friday. Of course, that means that Brandon "TGIF" Barca is gone. Again.

I could barely hear him saying something about a friend getting married on the Gulf Coast as he peeled out of the McGugin parking lot yesterday. So for the second time in three weeks, I'll do my best to fill in and give you a little tour around the web.

Around the web

Football: Walk-on Reece Lovell gladly loses number (Lockridge, Tennessean)

Football: Commodores display big-play ability (Lockridge, Tennessean)

Football: Saturday preview (Wheeler, Nashville City Paper)

Football: Hard-luck starts converge as Eastern Michigan heads to Nashville (Single, Inside Vandy)

Football: SEC did you know?: Week 6 (Low, ESPN)

Soccer: Vandy at Arkansas Friday (arkansasrazorbacks.com)

Golf: Follow the Commodore women live in Chapel Hill | Men play at PGA West starting Sunday (Golfstat)

Golf: Snedeker ready for SEC-ACC battle (PGA Tour)

Videos of the day

Yesterday we debuted the newest commercial in our recent series: "Jeffrey Taylor IS Vanderbilt basketball." Less than 800 season tickets remain on the men's side to watch Taylor, recently announced as a Wooden candidate, and the Commodores in Memorial Gym.

Just before leaving for Arkansas yesterday, Head Coach Ronnie Woodard took a moment to preview the weekend and give some news about senior Molly Kinsella. Remember to vote daily for SEC Soccer's only Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist.

Graphic of the day

Speaking of Molly Kinsella, check out the graphic that the great folks with the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award put together. There's one for every finalist and they look awfully snazzy.

Song of the day

This one's for sportswriter and VU alum Josh Cooper. Josh covers the Predators for the Tennessean, and he's a fan of Bruce Springsteen. He's not always a fan of Springsteen covers, though, so we'll see what he thinks of one of my favorite bands, the Avett Brothers, playing Glory Days.

Random video of the day

Some greatest hits from the current international soccer scene. The Commodores are looking to get some valuable points this weekend at Arkansas and LSU.

* a big, semi-sarcastic thanks to Barca for finding the picture of me at the top of the page, circa 2000, in Vanderbilt University Theatre's production of Richard Sheridan's "A School for Scandal."
