Frank Lorge (Swimming, 1969-1972)

Of all the swimmers to compete for Vanderbilt, Frank Lorge was perhaps the best. In addition to breaking records and winning conference championships as a backstroke specialist, Lorge was a true intellectual, receiving a Civil Engineering undergraduate degree in 1972, his Doctorate of Jurisprudence in 1980 and a Master of Science degree in environmental and water and resources and engineering in 1982, all at Vanderbilt. He hasn't stopped swimming either, winning the 1990 Masters National championship in the 200-meter backstroke and recently winning the Masters National title in the same event.

Set then-SEC record in 200-yard backstroke with 1:59.9 (1970)
Three time NCAA qualifier (1970, 1971, 1972)
Undefeated in dual meets by an opponent for four years
Named captain his senior year (1972)
Swam the backstroke leg on a 200-meter medley relay that set an American Record (1970)
Received the prestigious Stein Stone Memorial Award by the Vanderbilt School of Engineering, given to a graduating engineering student that has earned a letter in sports and been judged to have made the most satisfactory scholastic and extra-mural progress
One of the first recipients of the Rowan Scholarship in 1970 for outstanding engineering students in an Olympic sport
