    Wendy Scholtens Wood (Basketball, 1987-91)

    Wendy Scholtens was the first of Vanderbilt's great women's basketball stars. A double-double machine, she was the best scorer and rebounder not just at Vanderbilt, but in the entire Southeastern Conference, leading the Commodores to two Sweet 16 appearances during her college career. The elite center played for the United States national team and also played professionally in Japan before returning to the U.S. and pursuing a law career in her home state of Arkansas.

  • Holds 15 Vanderbilt women's basketball records, including school's all-time leading rebounder

  • Averaged most points per game (21.3), most rebounds per game (10.4) and best free throw percentage (.868) during career in Commodore history

  • Set single-season school scoring record with 855 points in 1989-90 season

  • SEC Freshman of the Year in 1988

  • Leading scorer and rebounder in the conference from 1989-1991

  • All-SEC 1989-1991

  • First Vanderbilt Kodak All-American in 1990

  • Commodore Female Athlete of the Year 1989, 1990, 1991

  • Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame inductee in 1999

  • First Vanderbilt woman to have jersey retired in 1999

  • Admitted to Arkansas Bar in 1996
