NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Giavonna Meeks was named the SEC Indoor Track & Field Co-Freshman Field Athlete of the Year, the league announced Wednesday. She is the first-ever Vanderbilt student-athlete to receive this award.

“It’s such an honor to have one of our athletes recognized by the SEC, the greatest track and field conference in the NCAA, for her hard work, execution and success this season,” director of cross country and track and field Althea Thomas said. “G works relentlessly with Coach Newell to hone in on her skills and push herself to new limits. She is a great example how we have elevated the standard of this program. We are proud of her and all that she has accomplished and will accomplish with the V on her chest.”
