Dores gather for charity softball

July 8, 2018

NASHVILLE -
Twenty former Commodore student-athletes participated in the fun-filled Vanderbilt Legends Softball Game Saturday at Hawkins Field to raise awareness of domestic violence and the victim support services of YWCA Nashville & Middle Tennessee.

Team Offense topped Team Defense 8-3 in the seven-inning game. It followed a Home Run Derby where former quarterback and current SEC Network football analyst Jordan Rodgers edged former quarterback Austyn Carta-Samuels, current New England Patriot running back Ralph Webb and current Green Bay Packer linebacker Oren Burks.

Current New England Patriot wide receiver Jordan Matthews organized the second annual "Vandy Heroes" event through his Matthews Mission foundation.

Former standouts from four Vanderbilt sports - football, men's and women's basketball and women's tennis - returned to campus to participate in the charity cause.

All proceeds from the event will go to the YWCA's AMEND Together initiative, a local effort dedicated to ending violence against women and girls by engaging men and boys to be part of the solution.
