Commodores Open Community Campaign Saturday

Free Mini Golf Event Saturday, Rivergate Appearance Monday

Nashville, Tenn. - Up to 10 Vanderbilt athletic teams will be represented when the Commodores' second community outreach campaign kicks off Saturday with free Putt-Putt for fans at Europa Mini Golf in Bellevue.

(Note to readers: Due to attending a funeral out of town, head coach Bobby Johnson will be unable to attend the event Saturday. Johnson is scheduled to attend Monday's event at Rivergate Mall.)

Several Commodore head coaches, including women's golf coach Martha Freitag, lacrosse coach Cathy Swezey and bowling coach John Williamson, will join selected Vanderbilt student-athletes for the Saturday evening of free mini golf.

Commodore fans are invited to attend, play a free round, win prizes, get autographs, and meet the Vanderbilt  sports personalities at the event, scheduled 5-7 p.m.  Europa Mini Golf is located near I-40 off Exit 199.

Among the Commodore student-athletes expected to participate in mini golf are women's basketball guard Dee Davis, men's basketball guard Mario Moore and several football players, including linebacker Moses Osemwegie, quarterback Jay Cutler and safety Kelechi Ohanaja.

On Monday, "Commodores in the Community II" moves north of Nashville for a meet and greet appearance at Chick-fil-A near Rivergate Mall. The Madison-Hendersonville event, a big hit with Vanderbilt fans last year, will feature Coach Johnson and three of the team's top players. Autographs, posters and prizes will be available.

"Since we had such a successful campaign last year, we have been very excited to reach out to Nashville again," said Eric Nichols, Director of Marketing. "We have some very charismatic coaches and student-athletes who are very fun to be around."
On Saturday, several football players and athletes from other teams will join Johnson and fellow Vanderbilt coaches as participants at the west Nashville activity. All Vanderbilt fans attending the event can play free golf with a different Commodore at each hole.
Europa Mini Golf is located in Bellevue behind Sam's Club. From downtown, take I-40 west to Exit 199 (Old Hickory), turn left on Old Hickory, and turn into the Sam's Club driveway on the right.
