Dores Dance in SEC Tournament

No. 7-seeded Vanderbilt competes against No. 10 seed, Ole Miss

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — The No. 32 Vanderbilt women’s tennis team travels to Athens, Georgia, to take on No. 42 Ole Miss in its first match of the SEC Women’s Tennis Championship tournament on Thursday.

The Commodores (11-9, 6-7 SEC) are coming off their last regular-season matches, where they fell to Georgia and Tennessee. Vanderbilt faced No. 6 Georgia on Friday and was defeated 0-4, then came up short on Sunday in a hard-fought battle against No. 17 Tennessee. In the latest ITA poll, three Dores earned a spot in the rankings: Celia-Belle Mohr at No. 12, Bridget Stammel at No. 77 and Anessa Lee at No. 30. Lee and Mohr are also ranked in doubles.

Ole Miss (12-10) is 5-8 in conference play; its most recent victory was against Missouri at home on Friday. Sunday saw the Rebels fall to Arkansas 2-4. The team features one ranked doubles pairing, Ava Hrastar and Briana Crowley at No. 70.

The past two seasons, Vanderbilt has faced a similar path: winning in the first round, then falling to Texas A&M. This year, if Vanderbilt beats Ole Miss, they will advance to play Texas A&M once again in the SEC quarterfinals on Friday.

The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. Central time on Thursday. Live stats and livestream links will be on the Vanderbilt Women’s Tennis schedule page.
