RJ Austin is one of 45 student-athletes recognized by USA Baseball

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – RJ Austin was named to the 2024 Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List, USA Baseball announced Thursday.

The midseason list features 45 student-athletes across college baseball, continuing the process of identifying the best amateur baseball player in the country for the 2024 season. The semifinalists will be announced by USA Baseball on May 20.

A sophomore from Atlanta, Austin currently leads Vanderbilt in both batting (.351) and RBI (29). Austin has two home runs and five doubles this season and is second in the SEC and 20th in DI with 16 stolen bases.

Austin is the 21st Commodore to be named to the Golden Spikes Award Midseason Watch List. Vanderbilt has had at least one student-athlete on the list each of the past five seasons, not counting the shortened 2020 season. Enrique Bradfield Jr. and Carter Holton were each recognized on the Midseason Watch List in 2023.
