GAINESVILLE, Fla. – On a hot and sunny Thursday in Gainesville, Vanderbilt track and field kicked off competition at the SEC Outdoor Championships. Action was highlighted by a NCAA Division I top 10 performance from Allyria McBride and a fourth-place finish from freshman Bria Bennis.
After Day 1 of the heptathlon, Marta Sivina and Madison Murray sit in sixth and seventh place with respective point totals of 3,177 and 3,134 points. Murray registered the third-best high jump clearance of the day 1.72 meters, just 1 centimeter shy of her personal best.
McBride advanced to the 400-meter hurdles final with the fourth-fastest time of the day and the No. 7 time in NCAA DI this year. She crossed the finish line in a personal best 56.05 seconds. Falon Spearman also turned in a PR in the 400-meter hurdles, placing 12th with a time of 58.05 seconds, ranked top 50 in NCAA DI.
In the final event of the day, Bennis recorded a time of 34:11.28 to place fourth in the 10,000 meters. She clocked the fifth-ranked time in Vanderbilt history in her first-ever time running the event.
